No offense folks, the hardware QWERTY keyboard of the N97 isn't revolutionary by any means. If it were a second touchscreen with Haptikos, then that would redefine things.
And I don't believe him that he thinks the QWERTY hardware is smarter.
@BUGabundo: no, H1 2009, so June-ish. @samin true. I forgot this was the N-series toy-phone, not the E-series work-phone. Although with an N-series, you might get all the cool Nokia apps supported, that don't work on e-series, like the Lifeblog for instance.
The GUI is the same (nearly) as Maemo's on the today screen. The smoothness of what was shown is the Sony Mylo COM-2. Does look thick though. Hand-able kinda thick though.
@arjw talking about revolutionary and the hardware keyboard.
Take the iPhone: definately revolutionary for all: except blind people. How the fuck are they supposed to use it?
My opinion: Nokia have what, 45-55% of the world market on devices? They cannot afford (business-wise, and "morally wise") to alienate a large percentage of possible users (blind people use t'internets too).
Apple is still a "boutique" device maker, whereas Nokia's business is devices (and now, what goes on them).
I very much like @jukkaeklund's comment evolution rather than revolution. Evolution is based on making something better, and longer lasting..revolution well....that can fail miserably.
I agree, its an evolution (hardware wise). As this was pitched during the keynote, I expected a bigger step into the unknown taken, not something done before (this is essentially a HTC 8925 running S60 5th edition).
@bogart This is what I hate about these things: read the farking official release http://is.gd/9QZq
"Other key talents include a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Tessar lens and dual LED flash, GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, stereo Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headphone jack."
@constantine agreed. Cool video, but I have a hard time believing the experience will be that nice.
@serkoart True. I would have liked to see what the N95 would have done in the US at a $199 price point, however. Sure, the iPhone would still have sold more, but at least it would have been a fair fight.
just to clarify--I spend more time patching my 3G iPhone and losing desired functionality than any other mobile phone I have owned in 11 years. The iPhone is bling for those who like the allure of pinching, rotating, and zooming over the tactile response of a keyboard, the copying and pasting of messages and the interconnectivity over Bluetooth with cars, TVs and earbuds. As the market shows, some people want bling over function. That's the beauty of competition in a vibrant marketplace.
@constantine that video looks like computer generated. Real life is never that good. :) What happens when the Jaiku client sucks memory space? Or you have too many sexy videos on the memory :P
@serkoart yes it is resistive, because it needs to work in all weather conditions, and with people wearing gloves like in finland. a real "WTF" would be due if Nokia released a handset that all of its population can't use more than half the year!!!
and i've seen and touched the 5800 xpressmusic, works like a charm! also the n97 won't even ship with a stylus in some countries. that's how good they got their "resistive" touchscreens going :)
it's coming, breathe in, breathe out... people nowadays are so demanding, see a concept leak and u want it now, ugh... it's like asking for Nokia's morph to be released tomorrow.
@khouryrt: given the context of the conversation/keynote and the screens running behind OPK and Ansi of what's next, I did expect the Morph. Call be crazy, but I read a bit much into too much XD
Screenplay isn't in the N97? Uhmmm, what is in this device? Seems like a lot of things aren't in it that either would be genre defining, or even already in other devices released. Uhmmm... there's more to this device than what's been released so far.

@serokart 17 million phones sold in a world population of 6,602,224,175 is still boutique. Operative word being boutique.
Now, that's not to say that Apple won't increase that.
